Tires

Because Hawaii state law prohibits disposal of whole used tires, used tires must be disposed of properly. Residents of Hawaii may take used tires to tire retailers/wholesalers as a first option. They are required to accept used tires for recycling. Many will accept used motor vehicle tires for free, without the need to purchase new ones. Residents may also take tires to a local tire collector or recycler who is permitted by the Hawaii Department of Health. These authorized tire collection and/or recycling facilities usually charge a nominal fee. Check with County Solid Waste Divisions or Recycling Offices to determine if they will accept used tires at local transfer stations.
