Child Passenger Safety

Vermont state law requires that all children under age 16 be properly restrained. Children under one year of age and weighing less than 20 pounds must ride in a rear-facing car seat. Children over one year of age and weighing more than 20 pounds should ride in a federally approved car seat or booster seat until they are at least 8 years old. The car seat or booster should be appropriate for the child's age, height and weight, and should be used according to manufacturer's instructions. Children aged 8 through 15 should ride in a properly fitted seat belt.
