The laws listed below are current as of October 2005.
Adult Seat Belt Laws
- Every driver and front seat passenger next to the door must wear a seat belt, regardless of their age. (TR § 22-412.3)
- Everyone under the age of 16 must wear a seat belt, regardless of where they are sitting in the vehicle. (TR § 22-412.3)
Child Passenger Safety Laws
- Any child under the age of 6 years, regardless of child’s weight, must be restrained in a child safety seat according to the vehicle and child safety seat manufacturer’s instructions. (TR § 22-412.2)
- Any child weighing less than 40 pounds, regardless of the child’s age, must be restrained in a child safety seat according to the vehicle and child safety seat manufacturer’s instructions. (TR § 22-412.2)
- Every child under the age of 16 must either be secured in a child safety seat or restrained by a seat belt. (TR § 22-412.2)
- Children under the age of 16 may not ride in an unenclosed bed of a pickup truck. (TR § 21-1121)
