Aggressive Driving

With hundreds of road improvement projects this season, travelers could get stuck. We know work zones can be an inconvenience, but they mean roads will be smoother and safer sooner. Here are a few of the things MoDOT is doing to help keep you out of traffic jams this construction season:

 

Night work

MoDOT works during light traffic and at night whenever possible to stay off the roads during peak travel times.

 

Construction maps

A statewide construction map, I-70 construction map and I-44 construction map identify where and when major construction projects will take place, so motorists can plan ahead.

 

Alternate route signs (alternate route)

MoDOT is the first state to use a custom-made sign to mark alternate routes on interstates, to identify routes travelers can take to avoid construction areas.

 

Radio spots

Radio spots will run March through September to remind travelers to Drive Smart and Arrive Alive.

 

Billboards

Billboards around the state remind motorists while in their vehicles where they can get construction project information on the Web.

 

Changeable message boards

are placed along interstate corridors as well as in and around work zones to alert travelers to upcoming detours or delays.

Every trip, every time — safety belts save lives.

 

Stay Alert!

Dedicate your full attention to the roadway.

 

Follow Signs!

They'll guide you through work zones safely.

 

Expect the Unexpected!

Watch for flaggers, workers and equipment.

 

Pay Attention!

Turn the radio down and don't use your cellular phone.

 

Be Patient!

Remember workers are improving the road for future travels.

 

Don't Speed!

Follow posted limits and adjust for weather conditions.

 

Don't Drink and Drive!

Impairment of any kind is unacceptable.

 

Be Nice!

Merge as directed, don't tailgate and don't change lanes in a work zone.
