Bus Safety
- Have your children dress in clothing that is appropriate for the weather and the season. Avoid clothes with drawstrings and backpacks with long straps, as these can get caught on parts of the bus.
- Coordinate with other parents to ensure that adults are present at the bus stop every day. Students should arrive at the stop no fewer than five (5) and no more than ten (10) minutes before the scheduled pick-up time.
- Stay at the bus stop with your students to help them with safety procedures. Please help them to wait for the bus at a safe spot off the road (10 feet from the road if there is no sidewalk), watch traffic carefully and avoid rough play.
- Have a backup plan in case the bus is delayed. If the bus is late, children should remain at the stop for no more than 15 minutes past the scheduled leave time. School bus drivers will run routes as scheduled; however, if snowplows are unable to clear the roads or other difficulties arise, delays may occur.
- Teach your children to
- Ask their drivers for help if they drop something near the bus.
- Be safe riders, facing forward, staying seated, speaking quietly while on the bus and following bus rules.
