Booster Seats
Previously Wyoming's law required using child safety restraints for those 4 years of age or younger and weighing less than 40 pounds. However, research has shown children weighing less than 80 pounds are still too small to be properly protected by seat belts designed for adults.
Lap belts can ride up on the abdomen of children, putting them at risk of internal injuries during a crash. Shoulder belts often are too high to fully protect a child from head injuries.
For children between 40 and 80 pounds, a booster seat makes sure the seat belt is positioned to provide the full protection it was designed to give.
