Safety Seats

Safety groups recommend rear-facing child seats for children up to 20 pounds and 1 year old, forward-facing child seats for those between the ages of 1 and 4 and between 20 and 40 pounds, and belt-positioning booster seats for children between 40 and 80 pounds.

Wyoming's child-restraint law is termed a "primary" enforcement law. That means, when an officer witnesses an unrestrained child in a vehicle, he may make a stop and cite the driver. The fine for a first offense is $60, for a second or thereafter, $110.

Wyoming's seat-belt law (for adults), on the other hand, is a "secondary law." That means an officer must first witness a moving violation before he can stop a vehicle and then write a citation for a seat-belt law violation, for the moving violation or both.
