About the Indiana Defensive Driving Course
If you've received a notice from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) or you're looking to reduce points on your license, you can meet BMV requirements and protect your driving record with our course.
This course is for drivers who need to satisfy a Driver Safety Program (DSP) requirement due to a recent traffic ticket or point accumulation. You may also choose to complete the course voluntarily to earn a four-point credit on your driving record and potentially qualify for an insurance discount.
After registration, you can complete the course entirely online at your own pace. Use any internet-connected device to work through the material.
This program covers all state-required content, including safe driving habits, traffic laws and strategies for avoiding future violations. Once you complete the course and pass the final exam, your completion will be reported directly to the state.
Ready to reduce points, fulfill BMV requirements and become a safer driver? Get started today and take control of your record.
Who Needs this Course?
You may be required to complete a BMV-approved DSP if you've been convicted of traffic violations or involved in multiple accidents. Indiana law outlines specific scenarios where taking a defensive driving course is mandatory.
You are required to take a DSP course if:
- You are convicted of two or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period
- You are under 21 years old and:
- Were convicted of two or more traffic offenses
- Involved in two or more accidents
- Or have a combination of violations and accidents
- A judge orders you to take it following a traffic offense
Once the Indiana BMV is notified of these convictions, you must complete a DSP course within 90 days. Failure to do so can result in the suspension of your driving privileges.
In some cases, a court may also assign a DSP course as an alternative to license suspension. Many drivers choose to take this course voluntarily to reduce points on their license or qualify for insurance discounts.

How the Course Works
Each module ends with a 10-question, multiple-choice quiz to test your understanding of the material. You must score at least 70% to pass each quiz. If you don't pass on the first try, you'll have additional attempts to review and retry.
The course is self-paced, so you can log in and out as needed. Progress is saved automatically.
Final Steps
To complete the course, you'll take a 20-question final exam. You'll need a score of 70% or higher to pass, and you have unlimited attempts to master the material.
Once you pass, you can instantly download a certificate for your records. We'll also report your completion to the Indiana BMV by the next business day, saving you the trouble of extra paperwork.
After processing, your four-point credit will be applied to your driving record, and any BMV or court requirement will be marked as complete.
