School Buses

Certain types of clothing can be caught in the bus handrail or door as the child gets off the bus. In recent years, a number of children across the US have been dragged by a bus because their clothing was caught. Please take time to check your child's clothing to make sure it is safe.

Especially dangerous are:

  • Long, dangling jacket or sweatshirt drawstrings
  • Long backpack straps
  • Long scarves or other loose clothing

Also, talk to your child about other bus safety rules such as:

  • Never run to or from a bus
  • Don't push or shove
  • Never crawl under a bus
  • Cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus
  • Watch out for other motorists. They don't always stop
