School Buses

Funded by a $12,000 grant from South Carolina Operation Lifesaver, "Whistle for Safety" provides all school bus drivers with whistles to use in quieting students as they approach railroad crossings. A school bus is required to stop between 15 and 50 feet from the tracks before the driver looks and listens for oncoming trains.

The project also provides stickers with safety reminders and emergency numbers for inside the buses, as well as bumper stickers for outside the vehicles to alert other drivers that school buses stop at all railroad crossings.
